QUESTION: I am due in September and would like to breastfeed my baby. Last year I had
thyroid surgery and they took out my thyroid and parathyroid glands. Because the
parathyroid glands help to absorb calcium in the bloodstream, I now must take a medication
called rocaltrol which helps my body absorb calcium into the bloodstream. I am wondering
where I can obtain information about whether or not I can breastfeed while taking the
medication rocaltrol. I would appreciate any help that you could give me.
Thank you very much.

Sheryl
The medication that you describe is a type of vitamin D and is fine for
you to nurse your baby while taking it in normal doses.
Good Luck
