QUESTION: Is it possible to breastfeed while taking ritalin? I have been on ritalin for
ten years and I stopped when I was pregnant. I go to college and I have to take ritalin. I
start in August but my son won't take a bottle. He will take a bottle as long as it isn't
formula. I will be unable to pump enough to save. I am so worried that he will start
losing weight and become sick. What should I do? I have heard from Zane's doctors to give
him a cup but I'm afraid he won't get enough milk. Is there a formula that taste good? He
hates the taste of formula.
PLEASE HELP ME.

Millie,
Ritalin has not been reviewed by the AAP and it would seem that due to
it's physical characteristics that it would not be a drug which you should take while
nursing. Perhaps you could speak to your physician and see if there are other medications
that may help you and not interfere with nursing.
As for your little one not taking a bottle and not liking the taste of formula. No,
there is not a type of formula that "tastes" good. Perhaps you could speak with
your local La Leche League group or lactation consultant for suggestions in this area. I
cannot really give many suggestions not being able to meet the patient.
Good Luck
