I was just curious about information for
the duration of lactation. My son is 4 years old now and I am
still producing breast milk. It is not a lot., but it is still
present. I only fed him breast milk for about 3 months initially.
After that I was not producing enough milk to continue. I am not
sure why I am still producing breast milk. If anyone has any
information or knows why this is happening. Please write me. My
doctor checked my pituitary gland and it was alright. Other than
that, they are not sure why I am still lactating.

Dear Danita,
Many people continue to produce breastmilk for years after they stop nursing. Has your
doctor checked your prolactin levels. I would think they are probably high. Did you have
any difficulty getting pregnant? If your doctor is not concerned, I would say not to
worry. It could be quite a while till your breasts stop producing.
